Have you visited the booth today?

If you don't vote then you can't complain about the outcomes.

What the media today prefers to focus on, instead of what is really important. This cartoon says it better than I could ever.

Happy Columbus Day

In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue...
he landed on an island already inhabited with people, raped, enslaved, and killed the locals and then claimed to have discovered the place. So here is to that great explorer, a hero certainly deserving of his own holiday.

About Me:

(You know that little section on all networking sites that asks you to describe yourself, I realized I had left it blank when I started this blog so this is my attempt to fill in the blank.)

About Me:

I am passionate.

I am caring.

I am adventurous.

I am mellow.

I am understanding.

I am friendly.

I am honest.

I am realistic.

I am optimistic.

I am hard working.

I am forgiving.

I am funny.

I am wild.

I am loving.

But most of all,

I am hopeful.

BUT sometimes I lack:

patience (especially when waiting for the train),

confidence (when it comes to believing in my abilities), and

faith (when all seems to be going badly).

However, my lack of patience, confidence, and faith never last long when I remember: that all things take a little time and that life can't be rushed. That I have the capability to do anything and ONLY I can tell myself what I can and cannot do. AND when I remember that faith is vital in bleak situations; that faith in God, faith in Man, and faith in Myself is what will keep me strong and what will allow me to remain: passionate, caring, adventurous, mellow, understanding, friendly, honest, realistic, optimistic, hard working, forgiving, funny, wild, loving and most of all HOPEFUL.*

"Be the change you want to see in the world"

Probably the most famous quote by Mohandas Ghandi;

and today on the anniversary of his birth I think it's only appropriate that we took a good look at this world...

Unemployment and poverty increases in even the most developed of nations
Political coups followed by the removal of civil liberties and censorship of the media
Natural disasters ripping ripping through countries causing death, disease and suffering

The deteriorating state of the environment
And the endless violence over religion and territory

...and asked; What can we do to make a change?

Happy Birthday Ghandi, your worlds and teachings continue to give hope and light in even the bleakest corners of this world.

Hispanic Heritage

Love
... How I would love you,
love you as no one ever did!
Die and still
love you more.
And still
love you more
and more.

-Pablo Neruda

Pablo Neruda wrote that poem (only a piece of which is quoted above) for a woman he loved, but today I dedicate it to a land I love; the land of my parents. My orgullo is for my patria and for all who celebrate with me Hispanic Heritage this month and all year around.

It's a Raqy world!

Allow me to introduce myself… I’m Raqy (pronounced Rah-Key, not Rock-Y, and you have to make sure you roll that R … Rrrrrah-key. All together now… RRRRAQY. Good!) I have decided that it is time I put my ideas out there, even if no one is listening. This blog will be a reflection of my ideas, opinions, values, political view points, and just random crap that I find interesting. I am new to this whole blogging thing so please go easy on this poor virgin (for now). Also, I would love to know what you all find interesting and important so I ask you to please share your ideas with me. I promise if they are stupid I will only laugh a little. With that very short (and now as I re-read I realize not very informative) introduction allow me to present my depiction of a very Raqy (this time you can pronounce it as Rock-Y) world!
